August 2018

August - 10th-12th
ATV/UTV Friendly family Campout / Huckleberry Festival

ATV / UTV Friendly Riding, to Trout Creek, Montana for the Huckleberry Festival.
Location: Hawkeye Campout Ground off Shoshone Creek Road.
Ride leader -
Frank

Camping begins Friday at the Hawkeye Campground. Some members may be going up even earlier in the week.

For those interested some will be riding into Trout Creek Montana from camp on Saturday morning, leaving at
6:30am (Pacific time) for a 50+ Miles or 2hrs 15 minutes approx ride) to the "all you can eat" breakfast at the Trout Creek Fire Department's Fund Raiser ($6 I think) before watching the Parade. Then folks will have time to checkout all the festival vendors in Trout creek before grabbing a huckleberry Ice Cream and heading back to camp.

Those who do not head for Trout Creek often ride closer to camp or the surrounding area.
Maybe Murray for lunch at the Spragpole or some might even take their inner tubes and head for the river for a float. Huckleberry picking...
Lets do a potluck Dinner Saturday Night. The club will supply (Hamburgers and Dogs) and members can bring the trimmings to go with it.
When signing up for the ride you can list an item if you like to insure we don't get 20 bags of chips.  <grin>

Comedy Show planned:
One night only - Saturday night, See you there~.

Directions:
Take I-90 to the Kingston Exit, (exit 43 I believe)

Next travel North up the river for 29 miles. Just after the mile marker twenty nine,  Watch for the Shoshone Creek road on the right.  Turn right on Shoshone Creek and travel another 6 miles unt
il you see the large field with the Forest Service restroom on the right side of the road. (known as Hawkeye Camp)  If you miss the Shoshone creek road you will pass the RV Dump site and an old Forest Service camp, simply turn around and travel about 400 yards back down the river road known as Shoshone
Creek.

Note: Washington Residents need to look into a Montana sticker to ride there - Unless you also have an Idaho Sticker.  We'll discuss this at the meeting.

ATV / UTV Rolling Campout
Leader:
Robert Hopkins

3 day run to the North fork of the Clearwater River area has been GPS revised to around a max of 250 miles round trip,
and a 100 miles of riding at the destination.
Camping will be two nights on the route in the cedars area, where ever we find a good spot by the river area, so it will be rural camping.
Water will need to be packed or filtered/ boiled there. The need for proper disposal of human waste will be an individual's responsibility,
I use a lug-a-loo. Your individual gear will be your own comfort in this setting. Coolers should be used with dry ice.
There is no fuel, water or services of any kind there, no cell service. I will have my inReach satellite communicator for emergency communications and rescue.
The route will start in Wallace Idaho, over Moon pass and down into the North Fork of the St. Joe river. There we will head east to the Bitterroot divide and travel the Idaho Montana State line to above St. Ives Ranger Station where we will again head into the far southeast corner of the St. Joe and head down into the North Fork Clearwater ranger district to the cedars area. One way is 107 miles!

All SxS, ATV, UTV and Motorcycles are welcome.

The North fork riding area has nice loop routes for the larger then 50 inch riggs! However the area is full of 50 inch restricted trails that are open to ATV's, Motorcycles and 50 inch SxS. The SxS designation is not stated on the MVUM, but I verified that this designation did change a few years back with the ranger district supervisor before planning this trip!
I will be pulling my Yutrax ATV Trailer along on this trip. I estimate that  my RZR 570 will use 4 tanks of fuel whereas I will bring 15 extra gallons of fuel.
